The Republic of China (ROC) on Taiwan has for many years been home to numerous institutions devoted to the study of the Chinese Language. Perhaps this is one reason why the number of foreign students coming to the ROC for all levels of language study has been increasing for so long.
Students find that in addition to being able to enjoy the benifits of language training facilities, there is a much to be learned from experiencing the blend of tradition and modernity found in Taiwan. Students can simultaneously observe Traditional Chinese culture as well as enjoy the advantages of a modern, developed society. This, combined with ease of association with native speakers, is enough to make the ROC a fine chinese language learning environment.
The Taiwan Fellowships & Scholarships (TAFS) program is a Republic of China (R.O.C.) government initiative aimed to promote relevant research, educational links and enduring friendships between Taiwan and the global community. The TAFS comprises 8 awards in 3 categories: Fellowships for research, Huayu (Mandarin) Enrichment Scholarships, and Scholarships for Degree. Approximately 1,200 grants are provided annually for undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as researchers across the world to study or to conduct advanced research in Taiwan.
To meet the demand of numerous international Chinese learners, the SC-TOP has started to provide overseas test services since 2006. Also, the SC-TOP plans to increase test locations annually. For more information, please contact your local Education Division of Taipei Economic Cultural Office.
"Mandarin On-the-Go" links culture with real life, and it brings learners and social environments, "travelling" and "learning" together. It puts participants in real environments where they can use the language they’re learning to engage socially: "learning by using Chinese in daily life". This also makes it possible for tourism to give a greater sense of understanding and connection rather than superficial impressions. Participants will remember more of what they see and hear, and treasure the increased meaning and pleasure of travel.
