There is no “Student Visa” in Taiwan. Instead, Taiwan offers 2 types of Visa for foreign students:
1. Visitor Visa
2. Resident Visa
If you are going to stay less than 6 months, you should apply for the visitor visa. If your program is longer than 6 months, you will need to apply for the resident visa.

• Taiwan (ROC) Embassies and Missions Abroad
  Taiwan has over 109 embassies and missions in 73 countries. You will need to contact the embassies or missions in your country to apply for Visa. If there are no Taiwanese embassies or missions in your country, you can contact the nearest one in your neighboring countries or any embassies and missions around the world at your convenience.

• VISA for Chinese Learning Students

  If you want to come to Taiwan to learn Chinese and got admitted by a Chinese Learning Center or institution in Taiwan, you can contact your nearest Taiwanese embassy, consulate, or representative office for applying your Visitor Visa. Visitor Visa is issued for student who is going to stay in Taiwan less than 6 months. If your program is longer than 6 months, you will need to apply for a Resident Visa.

  The duration of Visitor Visa:
  1. 14 days.
  2. 30 days.
  3. 60 days.
  4. 90 days.

  Required Documents: 
  
  To apply for a Visitor Visa, you will need the following documents

• VISA for Exchange Students

  If you are an exchange student, depending on the length of your program, you will need to apply for different kinds of visas.
  1. Less than 6 months: Visitor Visa.
  2. Longer than 6 months: Resident Visa.
  Also, if you are holding a Visitor Visa, you can extend the duration of your visa up to 180 days according to your requirements.

  The duration of Visitor Visa:
  1. 14 days.
  2. 30 days.
  3. 60 days.
  4. 90 days.

  To apply for a Visitor Visa, you will need the following documents

• VISA for Students in Degree Programs

  If you are going to study in Taiwan for a degree program, which is more than 6 months, you will have to apply for the Resident Visa. 

  There are 2 ways for you to apply for the Resident Visa:

  1. If you got admitted by a Taiwanese university for a degree program, you would have to contact the nearest Taiwanese embassy, consulate, or representative office. 
  2. If you already stayed in Taiwan with a Visitor Visa, and qualified for applying for a Resident Visa, you can go to the Bureau of Consular Affairs for application.

  To apply for a Resident Visa, you will need the following documents

• VISA for Overseas Chinese Students

  If you are an overseas Chinese student, who fits the definition of "Regulations Regarding Study and Counseling Assistance for Overseas Chinese Students in Taiwan," you can also apply for your Visitor Visa or Resident Visa by submitting adequate documentation.
  For applying Visitor Visa, please refer to the requirements in "Visa for Learning Chinese" or "Visa for Foreign Students (Exchange)."

• Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)

  The Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) is an ID card for students who hold a Resident Visa. If you arrived Taiwan with a Resident Visa, you would need to apply for the ARC from the National Immigration Agency within 15 days of your arrival.

  If you arrive in Taiwan with a Visitor Visa but plan to stay in Taiwan over 6 months, you will need to switch your visa to a Resident Visa [please refer to "Visa for foreign students (degree)"], and then apply for the ARC from the National Immigration Agency.

  Required Documents

  To apply for the ARC, you will need to submit the following documents

• VISA Extension

  If you are holding a visitor visa and wish to stay beyond the date when their current visa expires, you will need to apply for a visa extension through the National Immigration Agency 30 days before your visa expires.
