◎Introduction ● National Taichung University of Science and Technology is situated in Taichung, Taiwan, originally known as the National Taichung Institute of Technology (NTIT). By December, 2011, the consolidation of the original NTIT and the National Taichung Nursing College subsequently formed NTCUST, which now consists of 6 colleges and 24 departments, including the College of Commerce, the College of Design, the College of Languages, the College of Information and Distribution Science, the College of Health and the College of Intelligence. Our pragmatic and diversified curriculum design meet students’ needs to be positioned in the right place with respect to their profession. In addition, our educational objectives are to cultivate professionals in all fields who facilitate national industrial development. ● With the enrollment of almost 20,000 students, NTCUST has as many as 937 part-time and full-time teachers, among whom 55 are full-time professors and 142 are full-time associate professors. The average student-teacher ratio is 24. ● With more than 160,000 alumni from all of the academic units, NTCUST has been a renowned and major player in vocational education with a solid record of fostering numerous students into highly-trained and commerce-related professions in Taiwan. ● NTCUST has built academic relationships with 34 universities and academic institutions located in Japan, South Korea, China, USA, Canada, UK, Switzerland, Vietnam and Malaysia. For consecutive years, NTCUST has sent students who receive grants from the Ministry of Education to Japan, USA and UK for short-term studies.

◎History
In 1919, NTCUST’s predecessor, Taichung Public School of Commerce in Taiwan, was founded during the Japanese occupation of Taiwan.
In 1921, the School was renamed to Taichung State School of Commerce.
In 1945, the School was again renamed to Taiwan Provincial Taichung Vocational High School of Commerce after the end of the Japanese occupation.
In 1949, the School incorporated Taiwan Provincial Taichung Cram School which became the Affiliated Vocational Cram School of Commerce.
In 1963, the School was renamed to Taiwan Provincial Taichung Junior College of Commerce.
In 1982, the School was promoted to a higher level and hence renamed to National Taichung Junior College of Commerce.
In 1999, the School became National Taichung Institute of Technology (NTIT), and its master’s program began recruiting students in 2003.
On December 1, 2011, with the approval of The Executive Yuan, NTIT merged with the National Taichung Nursing College and assumed the name of the National Taichung University of Science and Technology (NTCUST).
