Brief History
The Graduate Institute of Materials Engineering was established in 2003. We offer Master’s program to educate professionals in materials science and technology, and maintain a close tie with several disciplinary departments at NPUST.

Educational Objectives
The educational objective of the institute is to provide intensive specialized training to student so as to meet the educational goals of the material sciences and technology. This rigorous and critical specialized training will also allow students to cope with changes in industry tendency.
Our solid and integral curriculum helps to develop students’ occupational ethics, material analysis and manufacturing practical abilities. So that students will be able to understand of the key factors that govern the design and selection of engineering materials, as well as their processing, properties and stability for use in the fields of future related industries.

Development priorities
According to the trend of material technology development and manpower demand in southern Taiwan industries, the institute devotes efforts to 3 main directions:
1. Advanced metallic materials and processing technologies
2. Electrical/ energy materials and technologies
3. Biological/ medical materials and technologies

Future Jobs
Materials science and engineering is an interdisciplinary activity that applies the principles of basic sciences and engineering to understanding the behavior of materials, as well as development and applications. The graduates of this institute can find jobs from those companies or institutes such as metal, semiconductor, MEMS, electro-optics and biomedical-device industries.
