Founded in 1989, the Department of Music, NSYSU aims to equip students with professional competence in music and humanistic spirits. We offer Bachelor of Arts degrees in Voice, Piano, String, Wind, Percussion, and Composition/Applied Music. We continually provide the students with numerous opportunities to perform with large and small ensembles on campus and also at local cultural/music centers in Kaohsiung. Many concerts, performances, master classes, lectures, faculty, and guest artist recitals are held each year and open to the public.
Supported by the university authorities and sponsors from the society, we are committed to upgrade the facilities to meet students’ needs for study. To enhance our teaching environment, we moved from Art Center to its present site in the Fine Arts Building in 2001. It has excellent resources including Recital Hall, practice rooms, a professional recording studio, Early Music Room (equipped with harpsichord, spinet, virginal, clavichord, woodwind, and viola da gamba), Orchestra Room, Chorus Room, Popular Music Lab, Electronic Music Lab, Digital Composition Studio, Music Library, and Resource Center (with extensive collections of books, journals, scores as well as audio and visual resources), Piano Room and other professional rooms. Students are able to advance their professional skills with these facilities.
