History:
The Department of Chinese Literature was founded in 1998, with the distinct goal of recruiting excellent teachers, promoting teaching and research quality, strengthening students’ confidence, and creating a wonderful learning environment. With all teachers, office staff and students working as a team, we have established our “free-thinking, solid scholarship, vivid and progressive students” characteristics, gaining recognition from the academic field in Taiwan. With our MA program founded in 2003 and then Ph.D. program established in 2007, we are now a complete Chinese Literature department with the graduate program.
Goal and Characteristics:
The undergraduate curriculum is based on traditional Chinese culture, combining modern and contemporary Chinese literature. We strive for solid and complete training in the basics of Chinese literature. Our principles are:
A. Emphasizing both classic literature and modern literature;
B. Caring linguistic appliance and literary appreciation both;
C. Applying literary study and realistic usage in the same path;
D. Combining traditional culture and native soil culture.
We also use our privileged journalism and mass communication facility at Shih Hsin University, assisting our students to pursue their individual interests in future career paths, be it scholarly research, education, creative writing, or communication.
