The Department of English focuses on literature and language courses. English is taught in small classes in order to increase interaction between teachers and students. English has been the language of instruction in a majority of the classes since 1997. With an equal emphasis on theory and practice, the curriculum includes English and American literature, linguistics, TESOL, ESP, and translation. In addition, the English Department is cooperating with the Shih Hsin Radio Station in the production of an on-campus program, E-Radio.
With their English proficiency skills, work experience, and cooperative projects, students are well prepared for employment. Students have the chance of obtaining an internship with a junior high school, language school, or a trading company. Internships, not only in Taiwan but also in other countries, can help students prepare for the job market. To enhance their knowledge, English skills, and competitiveness, students are encouraged to develop their professional knowledge in related fields by taking classes in other departments.
