The institute has actively engaged in teaching and research in applied geological sciences.
Founded in 1991, this Institute now has Seven full-time and twelve adjunct faculty members, offering both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees with emphasizing on the impact assessment of geohazards, geoenvironments and georesources. Our faculties have a broad spectrum of expertise and research interest in the areas of hydrogeology, groundwater hydrology, groundwater contaminant transport, active fault and earthquake hazard, landslide hazard, engineering geology, geomechanics, geotechnical engineering, and environmental geochemistry. Research facilities include Groundwater Contaminant Transport Research Group, Hydrosphere, Terrestrial, and Biosphere Model Group, Groundwater Research Group, Engineering Geology Research Group, Soil & Rock Mechanics Research Group, Environmental Geochemistry Research Group, Groundwater Modeling & Analysis Research Group, Geomechanics Research Group, and Groundwater Research Well Field. These provide students with excellent opportunities in acquiring hands-on experiences in conducting laboratory as well as field works. All students are highly encouraged to do publishable research in cooperation with their advisors.
