1. Mission
Our mission is to drive the academic research and development in human resource management in Taiwan. We are dedicate to training the professionals in human resource management; meanwhile, we collaborate with the industry closely both to integrate the theory and practical in our curriculum and to facilitate the organizational reinvention and innovation in the Taiwan industry. We aspire to fulfill the HR’s role in strengthening the international competitiveness of corporate Taiwan.

2. History
The Institute of Human Resource Management was founded in August 1994, aiming at training professionals in human resource management. In 1999, the executive program was established to collaborate with the government’s policy of life-long learning. It focused on offering professional training to human resource managerial staff. In 2000, the Ph.D. program was founded to train researchers and faculty for universities and colleges in Taiwan.
There have been 6 directors since the institute was founded. With a total of 727 graduates, there are 401 graduates from the masters’ program; 309, executive program; and 17, Ph.D. program.


3. Current Conditions

(1) Faculty
The Institute has seven faculty members, including two professors, one project professor, three associate professors, and one assistant professor. In addition, there is an honorary professor and two adjunct professors. All the faculty members hold Ph.D. degrees from prestigious universities at home and abroad. With papers presented in international journals, they are active in participating in international conferences to present their research results. Being members in academic and professional groups at home and abroad, they are always updated with the development of related disciplines.

(2) Admissions
In each year, the Institute sponsors recommendation screening tests for the master program (with the intake of 13 students) and an entry examination for the master program (with the intake of 13 students), Ph.D. program (with the intake of 6 students), and executive program (with the intake of 30 students). In addition, 1 student from China and 2 international students are admitted to the master program and 2 international students are admitted to the Ph.D. program annually.

(3) Number of students
There are 134 students in the Institute, with 55 students in the master program; 64, executive program; and 15, Ph.D. program.

4.Course

There are three different programs: Ph.D. program, masters’ program, and executive program in the institute, which mainly focus on two major disciplines: human resource management and organization management. Connected with the methodology and operation management courses, the curriculum covers six major areas: basic functions of human resource management, organization management, strategic human resource management, team leadership, operation and management, and research methodology. The masters’ program puts dual emphases on theory and practice. Meanwhile, the Ph.D. program focuses on methodology and basic theory. In addition to fulfilling course requirements, students are expected to take courses in theory or applications. Furthermore, the executive program emphasizes the study of theory, applications, and case studies to cope with the needs of enterprises and the currents trends of economic development. With innovative courses, it is expected to deepen the results in teaching and learning. In order to offer students in different programs more opportunities in sharing their experiences and knowledge, the students in the master program and executive program are encouraged to exchange frequently.
