Department features
Our department is the first graduate institute of Opto-Mechatronics in Taiwan. We integrate multidisciplinary knowledge encompassing electro-optical, electrical, mechanical, chemical engineering and physics. The motivation for establishing our department is that research on photonics and optoelectronics, more often than not, has to be integrated with the knowledge of electronics, mechanics and materials. Thus we provide curriculum mainly on opto-electronic and partly with electronics and mechanics. And our research focuses in two directions: (1) optical image display technology, (2) micro-and nano-opto-electro-mechanical technology. Our long-term goal is to establish a department of Opto-Mechatronics in college.

MS Education
To copy with the trend of integrated technologies in the future, our mission is to educate engineers with integrated multidisciplinary knowledge encompassing, opto-mechatronics, precision machining and manufacturing, MEMS (micro-electromechanical systems), and nano-technologies.
The education program of the Institute emphasizes on both theoretical analysis skills and hand-on experiences. The students are required to acquire the full spectrum of opto-mechantronics science and technologies, covering (1) device principles and design, (2) subsystem integration, (3) intelligent information technologies and integration, and (4) system-level integration.

The institute has been accredited by the Institute of Engineering Education of Taiwan (IEET) since 2008. The following core competencies were designed according to the education goals and Core competence:
