The Department focuses its teaching and research activities on three interrelated categories: soil and water resources engineering, bioenvironmental engineering, and environmental informatics and systems analysis. Curriculum subjects covering a very broad spectrum are routinely offered. In particular, the Department has recently initiated an inter-college ecological engineering curriculum program, aiming at integration of engineering and ecological practices. The faculty is active and productive in research. Research grants come from the National Science Council, the Council of Agriculture, Water Resources Agency, Environmental Protection Administration, irrigation associations and many consulting companies.

Department of Bio-environmental Systems Engineering offers an All-English Graduate Curriculum which provides an integrated and multidisciplinary program that spans a very wide spectrum including environmental database building and analysis, environmental monitoring and instrumentation, landscape ecological measuring and planning, restoration ecology, spatiotemporal stochastic modeling and simulation, risk assessment and management, environmental system/process modeling, and climate change impact assessment. We expect International Degree students who are admitted to our department can select courses from this curriculum so as to ease their study pressure and be involved in their researches rapidly.
