NSYSU is located in the scenic Sizihwan Bay area of Kaohsiung. Perched on the hillside of Shou-shan Mountain and facing the Taiwan Strait, the Institute of Political Science (IPS) is known for its interdisciplinary ambience. Since its establishment in 1993, the IPS has nurtured numerous scholars, public servants, entrepreneurs, and philanthropists for more than two decades. The IPS offers graduate seminars that cover but are not limited to the following research subjects: global affairs, Taiwanese politics and democratization, Chinese politics and cross-strait relations, E-society and cross-disciplinary studies, and political thoughts and practice.

The political science (PS) master’s program in NSYSU was initiated in 1993 and has been updated to fit the needs of cross-disciplinary applicants who are interested in engaging in public services, creating a leadership structure and combining data science and social care. The courses of this program emphasize discussion and independent reflection on the chosen subjects, which encompass subjects ranging from philosophy and humanity in human society to technology that concerns the new generation of all-round talent. The discussion and debates undertaken allow students to think more comprehensively, criticize, and start more accurately than others, whether they are merely sitting and discussing politics or gearing up to work in politics.

The PS master’s program in NSYSU is bilingual. More than half of the courses per semester are taught in English in this program. Prospective students who are able to learn using English and/or Mandarin Chinese are welcome to apply. Every faculty member at the IPS can communicate fluently and smoothly with students in both English and Chinese. Students will be immersed in a friendly study environment that helps them enrich their ability to communicate in Chinese while digesting assigned materials and participating in discussions in English.

Graduates of the NSYSU PS master’s program will continue their careers in governments, social organizations, and enterprises, with their ability to ask the right questions, analyze information, and reconstruct the meaning of concepts that shape the order of the world.

NSYSU’s PS master’s program has been recognized by Taiwan's political science realm as the most active fusion of social science and data science available. Students will be trained to ask deep and critical questions and equip themselves with the proper methods to seek answers. From political ideology to mass behavior, this master’s program guides students to develop insight into concurrent political issues and those concerning our future generations.
