It is the goal of the Department of Chinese as a Second Language to cultivate elite professionals in Chinese language pedagogy and research, as well as international experts of Chinese language. In August 2012, the Graduate Institute of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (founded in 1995 with Master’s and Ph.D. programs) and Department of Chinese Language and Culture for International Students (founded in 2006 with only undergraduate program) were combined to become the current department, offering both undergraduate and graduate programs in teaching Chinese as second language.
