The Department of Psychology, National Cheng Kung University Introduction
The Department of Psychology traces its origin back to 2005 when the Institute of Cognitive Science was founded with approval from the Ministry of Education. In 2006, the Institute started to recruit students into its master's program and prepare for the establishment of the Department of Psychology offering a bachelor's program. In 2007, the Department of Psychology was approved by the Ministry of Education to be established and to recruit students into its undergraduate program from 2008.
Statistics show that as of August, 2011, more than 70 students had been enrolled into the Institute of Cognitive Science, while more than 150 students had been admitted into the Department of Psychology.

In August, 2011, the Institute of Cognitive Science was merged into the Department of Psychology as a single academic unit at NCKU, offering a bachelor's program in psychology and a master's program in cognitive science.

In September, 2014, the Department restructured its master's program in cognitive science into a master's program in psychology, with approval from the Ministry of Education.

In 2017, the application submitted by the Department for the establishment of the International PhD Program in Mind Sciences was approved the Ministry of Education in May. This Program is scheduled to start recruiting students in August, 2018.

The Department of Psychology is fundamentally and prospectively characterized by its interdisciplinary education and research encompassing the various disciplines of sociology, the humanities, medicine and engineering, aspiring to cultivate talented professionals specializing in basic research, practical applications and the field of body-mind-spirit health.
