Learning Mandarin in Taiwan didn’t just change my language skills—it opened doors to new opportunities.
From Beginner to Interpreter — Unlocking Mandarin in Taiwan
I’m Cattaleeya from Thailand, and when I first arrived in Taiwan, I didn’t know any Mandarin. Today, I’m using the language as an interpreter while pursuing my iMBA at Taiwan Tech as a recipient of the Taiwan MOE and HES Scholarships.
For me, learning Mandarin is more than just studying a language—it’s about opening doors to new opportunities.
From my exchange at NCKU to everyday life in Taipei, I’ve learned that using Mandarin daily is the most effective way to improve. Whether I’m ordering bubble tea, shopping, or chatting with friends, every interaction becomes part of my learning process.
Another part I really enjoy is exploring local food. "ReChao", "Xiaolongbao", and mango shaved ice are some of my favorites, and they make the whole experience even more fun and memorable.
Studying in Taiwan also means learning beyond the classroom. I’ve had the chance to visit places like Sun Moon Lake, Thousand Island Lake, and Green Island, which have made my journey even more meaningful.
Through internships and real-world experiences, I’ve been able to apply what I’ve learned, connect with people, and build my professional network.
Taiwan has helped me grow both academically and personally, and it’s a place where learning Mandarin truly becomes part of your everyday life.
