A Strategic Choice for Academic Growth
I chose to study in Taiwan because it offers a powerful combination of a strong academic environment, affordable living costs, and generous scholarship opportunities. As an international student, this balance was essential for my journey. Beyond the academics, I was drawn by the desire to learn Mandarin and immerse myself in a new culture. What I found is a society that is not only organized and respectful but also incredibly safe.
When selecting my university, I was primarily influenced by its stellar academic reputation and the high quality of its programs. Fo Guang University stood out because of its supportive environment for international students and the financial aid that made this level of education accessible.

Deepening Roots in Religious Studies
My academic background is in religious studies, and I came here with a clear goal: to deepen my understanding of this field. This specific program captured my interest through its diverse curriculum and a faculty composed of highly experienced professors. One of the most enriching aspects of my daily life is the international environment. Having the opportunity to learn alongside students from all over the world makes my educational experience far more diverse and meaningful.

The university provides incredible resources that have been vital to my success. The library services are excellent, offering a vast collection of both physical and digital materials. Furthermore, the faculty and staff are genuinely approachable; they are always willing to guide students through both academic challenges and administrative processes. These academic seminars, workshops, and faculty guidance have supported my growth beyond the boundaries of the traditional classroom.

Overcoming the Challenges of Mandarin
Learning Mandarin is a significant part of my journey, though it has not been without its hurdles. For me, the most difficult aspects are mastering the specific pronunciations and tones. However, thanks to the university’s dedicated language classes and the naturally immersive environment of living in Taiwan, I am improving step by step. Each day provides a new opportunity to refine my communication skills in a real-world context.

Building a Professional and Global Perspective
If I had to describe my university in three words, I would say it is far more supportive, diverse, and globally connected than one might think. The support comes from a staff that truly cares about student progress, while the diversity of cultures and backgrounds creates a truly inclusive atmosphere. Additionally, the school is globally connected through various international branches and partnerships, which allows students to transfer credits and explore opportunities in different countries.

My time here has also allowed me to grow through hands-on experience. I served as a volunteer staff member for the FGS University Presidents Forum 2025, an experience that significantly boosted my confidence, teamwork, and communication skills. In the classroom, I have engaged in rigorous research-based assignments and presentations that have taught me how to analyze complex ideas and express them with clarity.
The university also does an excellent job of bridging the gap to the professional world. Through various workshops and seminars, I have met experts and learned how my studies in Buddhist Studies can be applied to fields like education, research, and international work. This has been instrumental in helping me map out a clear career path.

A Vision for Future Scholarship
Looking ahead, my plan after graduation is to continue my academic journey and pursue a PhD. Because of the incredible opportunities and support I have found here, Taiwan remains my first choice for my future studies. While I am open to exploring other countries as I advance in my career, my experience in Taiwan has profoundly influenced my aspirations and provided the foundation I need to succeed in the global academic community.
