Course design:

Courses and course sequences are designed with an emphasis on rigor, creativity, coherence, and cohesion in order to facilitate the balanced development of theory and practice throughout undergraduate years, providing students with ample opportunities to branch off into their interests and strengths. Our philosophy of course design focuses on three different areas: theory, experiment, and specialization. Courses on theory focus on the continuity of basic courses and the balance between theory and experiment; courses on experiment train hands-on skills and analysis techniques; courses on specialized topics endeavor to arouse students’ interest in physics, broaden their knowledge, and ensure their future growth by means of a diverse background. A brief description follows:

Theoretical courses

Theoretical courses aim to train basic knowledge and critical thinking. These include General Physics, General Chemistry, Calculus, Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Modern Physics, Astronomy, Mathematical Methods for Physics, Thermal Physics, Optics, Quantum Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Introduction to Medical Engineering, Introduction to Solid State physics, and Introduction to Theoretical Physics.

Experimental courses

Experimental courses aim to help students learn physics from experiments by becoming proficient in relevant skills and investigating theories learned in class. Preparing basic skills for future professional careers is the goal for students. These courses include: General Physics Laboratory, General Chemistry Laboratory, Classical Physics Laboratory, Optics Laboratory, Electronics Laboratory and Modern Physics Laboratory.

Specialized courses

We offer some special courses that provide more opportunities in different areas of physics, including astronomy, cosmology, solid state physics, computational physics, optoelectronics, materials science and laser science.

We also offer a special topics course where students will learn how to do research from a professor.

The seminar course is the capstone of the physics department, as students are required to undergo a complete process of research. Students will select their topics, collect information, study their resources, and discuss their materials with a professor before finally presenting their topics in class and attending a poster session.
