The College of Public Health, NTU, which Institute of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences belongs to, has been accredited by Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) in 2017. It is the first CEPH-accredited college outside North America.

The education goal of Environmental Health Concentration is to cultivate advanced scientists of environmental health, explore the influence of the natural environment and human activity on the health of the human body, establish a healthy environment, and find efficient countermeasures and methods for the prevention of disease and the promotion of a quality living environment. The function of environmental health in disease prevention and health promotion changes with the development of society. The future directions of development includes policy and administration of sustainable environmental health management, related key techniques, research of environmental toxins, and health monitoring of the human body.

The mission of the Occupational Health Concentration is to advance the health of all people in occupational and community settings in Taiwan, and around the world, through teaching, research and service in occupational and environmental health. Faculty members in the institute investigate causes, mechanisms and prevention measures of environmentally and occupationally related health issues, provide advanced education programs of occupational health with master and doctoral degrees, and provide
scientifically based public health services to the public, governments, industries, and laborers. Research approaches range from the molecular to the epidemiologic, in the physical scale from nano to macro, and the multiple disciplines of physical, chemical, biological sciences and economics. We focuses on complex yet important public health problems that require integrated contributions from many advanced specialties. The faculty, research staff, and students reflect the multidisciplinary nature of the field and include chemists, engineers, epidemiologists, ergonomics, physicians, molecular biologists, exposure assessors, and risk assessors. Teaching and research activities of the concentration are carried out through nine topics: 1) Environmental and Occupational Medicine, 2)Occupational hygiene, 3) Environmental and occupational epidemiology, 4) Environmental toxicology, 5) Aerosol technology, 6) Human factors (Ergonomics), 7) Exposure assessment, 8)Risk assessment, and 9) Ventilation technology.

Starting from spring 2013, College of Public Health presents an ALL ENGLISH PhD program (PhD in Global Health) for foreign students. It will offer sub- specialty in epidemiology, biostatistics, preventive medicine, occupational health, environmental health and health policy and management. For those who are admitted to this program, we have designed our required courses for them to complete in one academic year at NTU and become PhD candidates afterwards. We expect these PhD candidates to fulfill their thesis work in another 3-5years by collecting data in their home countries and conducting laboratory work at NTU if necessary.
