Founded in 1977, the Department of Mechanical Engineering at National Central University has an excellent reputation in the engineering field. It is currently the largest department at NCU with 46 full-time faculty members, 4 technicians and 5 supporting staff members, and nearly 1200 students (620 in BS, 395 in MS and 185 in Ph.D.). Since its establishment, the department has been aiming at outstanding performance in teaching and researches and has hence become a vital part of College of Engineering. Many faculty members receive teaching and research awards from national and international communities.

Our curriculum is designed to be engaging and innovative. It allows students to have multi-disciplinary training in mechanical engineering. The undergraduate and graduate programs currently offer a broad range of courses in the following areas:

Solid Mechanics and Design
Advanced Materials and Precision Manufacturing
Fluid and Thermal Science
Automation and System Engineering
Opto-Mechatronics
Energy Engineering
In response to the increasing challenges from global environment and energy issues, new courses are conscientiously prepared to keep our programs up-to-date and relevant. Delivered by professional faculty, both the undergraduate programs and the graduate programs provide our students with the professional expertise, teamwork capability and effective leadership, which in all, make our graduates exceedingly competitive in their career development. In fact, our graduates are employed by many of the top corporations, governmental agencies, research institutes and universities in the nation.

Our department has the most active research programs, which range across the wide spectrum of Mechanical Engineering. Equipped with state-of-art facilities, we manage to afford extensive collaborations with governmental agencies, research institutes and industry. Our department also receives funds more than 2.3 million US dollars per year from both government and industry. The funding can functionally support most of our graduate students for their study.
