Introduction
Department of Biochemical Sciences and Technology provides the field of study that focuses on the areas of biology and chemistry that are relevant to medical sciences and biomaterials. The department’s mission is providing excellent biochemistry courses and medical biotechnology training program to the students. The course design emphasizes extensive theoretical knowledge and advanced laboratory skills in the field of medical science and biomaterials. The professors in our department have organized a technical support team for the natural product extraction. In December 2021, our department support team won the 18th “National Innovation Award” in Taiwan based on the green extraction technology. Our department’s research activities focus on medical science, clinical medicine, cancer research, biomedical materials, drug delivery nanoparticle formulation, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, immunology, pathophysiology of subarachnoid hemorrhage, microbial pathogenesis, natural products for health care, microbial resources and application, and “omics” technologies in bioactive materials. During the master program, students work with a master degree project with our academic staffs and students will train problem-solving skills, project management as well as professional communication.

Curriculum Planning for Undergraduate Students
The minimum graduation requirement is 128 credit points for four-year undergraduate program. The course comprises 30 credits of general courses, 8 credits of college compulsory subjects, 19 credits of department foundation program and 24 credits of department core programs. Besides, our undergraduate course offers three specialized programs: biotechnology, biomedical science and biotechnological industry. These three programs are designed to provide specialization within the specific biotechnology fields. The student shall complete 32 credits of professional electives within at least one chosen program to meet the graduation requirement. In addition, our undergraduate biotechnological industry program provides the internship courses in our department or in biotechnology-related organization to offer students with an opportunity to gain experience working in an external organization.

Curriculum Planning for Postgraduate Students
The minimum graduation requirement for the master degree in Biochemical Science and Technology is 30 credit points. The course comprises 8 credits of compulsory subjects, 16 credits of professional electives and 6 credits in master degree project (thesis). Our department also provide oversea internship program to provide students with an opportunity to gain experience working in an international university or research organization.
