The Department of Electrical Engineering was founded in 2003, as the same time as National United University came into being. The Graduate Institute of Electrical Engineering was established in 2004 with a Master’s degree program. The mission of the department is to meet the needs of science and technology policy of the country and to provide well-trained electrical engineers for industry. The department offers both undergraduate and four-year technical and vocational programs, as well as the Master’s program. Courses cover the fields of power and energy, power electronics, automatic control, integrated circuit and systems, signal and system integration, communication, semiconductor material, microwave components and biomedical engineering.
The faculty members are actively engaged in both teaching and research. The research areas include the following categories:
●Energy conversion: power electronics, motor drives and applications of intelligent control
●Signal and system integration: IC design, system monitoring and micro-processor applications
●High-precision controller design: applications of advanced control theory and implementation of controller with DSP or FPGA
●Power system operation and quality control: power system analysis and control, and applications of high capacity power electronics to power control
●Applied physics: semiconductor material and device characterization, microwave components
●Biomedical engineering: signal processing, medical imaging, database processing
●Communication engineering: wireless communication systems and optical communication systems
