The Department of Chinese Studies was established in 2012. The department (which uses the Hanyu Pinyin) introduces students to ancient classics and original literary works to help them cultivate response, analysis and appreciation relevant to literature and culture. In responses to the needs of the international market, the department also offers elective language courses in Malay and Vietnamese which can be applied to the Ministry of Education Chinese teacher certification. Courses in Taiwanese (or Hokkien), French, and Japanese are also offered to enhance students’ sense of language and cultural communication. To further enhance students’ multi-oriented employment competitiveness, the department also offers multimedia and digital Chinese language teaching courses.
