The MA program includes a variety of disciplines grouped into three courses: foundation disciplines, specialist subjects and elective subjects. The foundation disciplines provide students a broad-based fundamental and methodological training in educational research. The specialist subjects extend students’ knowledge, understanding, and capability to identify key characteristics of major approaches to their specialist subjects, including educational administration and school management, curriculum and instruction, and the philosophy, history and sociology of education. The elective subjects broaden students’ awareness of the significance of contemporary educational topics.

MA students must complete at least 32 credits, including 12 foundation disciplines, 10-14 specialist subjects, and 6-10 elective subjects. Among the 32 credits, the 2-credit discipline, titled as "Statistics and Computer Educational Application," is compulsory if never taken before. Nevertheless, students fairly have freedom to choose subjects within the three courses. Students are also entitled to take courses up to 8 credits outside this Institute as long as it can best fit students' needs. After the completion of the course-work requirement, students should involve the completion of a substantial piece of satisfactory thesis and pass the open oral defense before their graduation

The PhD program aims to develop research abilities and in-depth knowledge and understanding within a particular field, and involves the completion of a substantial piece of original research. Students should follow six modules on (i) Research Methodology, (ii) Specialist Research, (iii) Elective subjects, (iv) Academic Publication, (v) Qualified Examination, and (vi) Dissertation Preparation with successful oral defenses.

Each doctoral student should receive substantial educational training from the methodological disciplines, specialist subjects, and elective subjects. Specialist subjects are divided into two groups: “educational administration and policy” and “the philosophy and history of education”. PhD students must take at least 28 credits, including 6-8 methodological disciplines, 10-12 specialist subjects and 8 elective subjects. Academic publication requires at least one double-blind refereed journal paper and one international conference paper. Students must pass the open oral defenses for the proposal and the final dissertation, for which they will receive individual supervision.
