The Department was founded for undergraduate study in 2008 and both the Institute Molecular Biology and Cellular Biology and the Institute of Human Gentics were set up to offer Master's degrees in 1999.
For the development of biomedical research in the post-genomic era, the Department organized four tracks of study, namely human genetic diseases and animal models; cancer biology; developmental and regenerative medicine; and biotechnology and genetic medicine. It aims to cultivate professional experts who possess basic knowledge in molecular biology and human genetics and who are also versed in carrying out experiments.
