Connecting distinguished research-oriented universities with four curricula clusters, IACS-UST offers an ideal environment for students who are interested in the socio-historical-political-cultural studies of Asia in the global context.

The International Institute for Cultural Studies office at National Tsing Hua University organizes the Contemporary Thought Trend and Social Movements research and teaching cluster. The curriculum supported by this cluster has three main themes: ""Literary Thought Trends and Cultural Actions,"" ""Contemporary Thought Trends and the Changes in the World,"" and ""History, Politics, Culture, and Society in Asia."" The research topics on which this cluster has been focusing in recent years is the ""Politics of Memory in Contemporary Taiwan."" In order to understand the modes, characteristics, and logic of the politics of memory in contemporary Taiwan, three approaches have been adopted: historical writing, cultural movement, and cultural governance.
