1. Continuous exploration of the important theories and models in earth sciences.
2.To investigate basic geology of Taiwan in order to discover natural resources(water,fossil fuels and minerals), understanding and dealing with the natural hazards we face(earthquakes, volcanism and landslides), as well as mitigating the environmental problems we have created.
3. To participate in international research programs, for instance, global change studies and ocean or continental drilling projects.
