For over five decades, the Tunghai University Department of Architecture has been a leader in defining and piloting the discipline of architecture in Taiwan. It has long been regarded as the best architecture educational institution on the island.
The department was established in 1960 as the Department of Architectural Engineering. It was then a four-year undergraduate program offering a bachelor’s degree in architecture. In 1974 it evolved into a five-year professional program offering a bachelor’s degree and was renamed the Department of Architecture.
The Department of Architecture/THU aims at achieving these educational goals
1. to cultivate the architectural capability in response to global and contemporary issues
2. to inspire humanist and innovation design thinking in the practice of architecture
3. to sustain a socially and culturally engaging enthusiasm in architectural professions
