2D materials have unique optoelectronic properties that make it ideally suited for solar cells, such as strong light-matter interaction and high carrier mobility. This project will include the synthesis of 2D materials, their assembly into devices and the characterization of device performance.
2D material production will be carried out at large scale using shear exfoliation from bulk crystals in suitable liquids. Devices will be fabricated through a combination of innovative liquid deposition methods and conventional semiconductor fabrication techniques, such as evaporation and lithography. The produced solar cells will be investigated by carrier transport and optical spectroscopy techniques as well as advanced microscopy. The performance will be extracted from photocurrent measurements and compared against state-of-the-art 2D-material devices, such as ultrathin solar cells. Finally, optimization will ensure the highest possible device performance.
Work in our lab will be supported by a mentor and instructions on the characterization equipment will be provided by experts in the field. Your progress will be supervised in individual and group meetings and you will have a network of both national and international students to engage in research and collect fond memories of Taiwan.
