Electric power systems are experiencing significant changes at the worldwide scale in order to become cleaner, smarter, and more reliable. Our research will examine a wide range of topics related to these changes, which are primarily caused by the introduction of new information technologies, renewable energy penetration, digitalized equipment, new operational strategies, applications of artificial intelligence to power grids, and so forth. The emphasis will be put on the modeling, simulations and control of smart grid systems, especially micro-grids. In our laboratory, various simulation software, including Matlab/Simulink, PSS/E, Digsilgent, PLI, PSCAD, are available. We also provide a real-time simulation platform OPAL_RT for hardware-in-loop (HIL) verifications. A laboratory-scale micro-grid prototype platform, including three-phase power converters, phasor measurement units, wind power generations, and relays has been deployed in our laboratory. We sincerely invite visitors with the strong academic background in both theoretical studies and experimental investigations in smart grids to participate our study. So far, two international students have been awarded Ph.D. degree and 3 international students have awarded MS degree in the past three years. We also have a lot of international visiting scholar.
