My name is fanny. I am an overseas Chinese student from Indonesia. I love studying while traveling. Thus, I have traveled to many different countries in my life.

1. What made you decide to study in Taiwan?

I am in love with Taiwanese culture, environment, and down to earth people of Taiwan. Besides, I want to strengthen my Chinese language ability, which is very important in business world nowadays. Moreover, there is more Taiwanese company invests in Indonesia, which will indeed benefit Indonesian student graduated from Taiwan’s university in their future career path.

2. Briefly tell us about the program you are studying. What subjects are you studying? What have you enjoyed the most in your studies?

I am major in International business which I love the most. I enjoy how the business and trade take place in this world, especially in Asia. Moreover, most of Southeast Asia countries are developing countries, which have a lot of population and target market. I love to study more about Southeast Asia and the business prospect in this area.

3. How is studying in Taiwan when compared to studying and being a student in your home country? (Teaching Quality、Environment、School Equipment、Laboratory or others)

There are a lot of differences between Indonesia and Taiwan in terms of education sector. In Indonesia, every student drive to school, as we don’t have supporting public transportation. But in Taiwan, most of students take MRT/Public transport to school. I think it’s very interesting that the students can learn time management. Moreover, most schools in Indonesia do not offer as high-quality laboratory and school equipment as schools in Taiwan.

4. What has been the most difficult part about applying to study in Taiwan? How did you overcome the difficulty?

The most difficult part was translating all of my essays to mandarin. I asked my mandarin teacher to improve and correct my mandarin essays to a better one.

5. What do you plan to do after you have finish your studies in Taiwan? Would you like to stay in Taiwan?  Why?

Yes, I would like to stay in Taiwan if I find a job here in Taiwan. I believe that Taiwanese company needs employee like me, who can speak 3 languages including English, Mandarin, and Indonesian fluently. Moreover, diversity in a workplace is important so I’ll be glad if I can learn more about business and trade in Taiwan practically.

6. How do you think studying in Taiwan can benefit you in your future career?

As there are more Taiwanese companies invest in Indonesia, I believe that they need someone like me. Thus, graduating from Taiwan’s university is a ticket for me to have better jobs and future career.

7. What do you see as your key achievements when studying in Taiwan?

I have a lot of International friends from Malaysia, Hong kong, Macau, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Korea, France, etc. I learn more about their culture and the way they communicate with each other very well. Also, I have improved my Chinese language here in Taiwan in recent days, so I hardly find difficulties communicating with Taiwanese. Moreover, I learned time management and life experiences as well because I need to do everything by myself. I studied a lot too so that I have been awarded a lot of scholarships from my University. Now, I am a mature girl who looks the world in different ways than before.

8. What advice do you have for other interested overseas students who want to come to Taiwan to study?

I would gladly advise them to seek for their true personalities during their stay in Taiwan and gain more life experience as it is more important than academic skills. Language is not a barrier for international student to study and learn different culture. As an international student like me, you will build a good character and always be yourself during your stay in Taiwan.
