Shih Chien University has roots that go back to the founding of Shih Chien College of Home Economics in 1958. Over the years, the institution evolved from a junior college to a bachelor’s degree granting institution and was renamed Shih Chien College of Design and Management in 1991. In 1997, the institution was promoted to university status. Today, the University is made up of 2 campuses and 5 colleges, with approximately 15,000 students and 700 faculty and staff. It is a learning community with friendly atmosphere and artistic environment. Shih Chien University has five colleges in two campuses.

The Taipei Campus is composed of three colleges. (1) College of Human Ecology aims at integrating the idea of innovation and industry cooperation with studies, teaching, life science knowledge, and skill popularization in order to improve the life quality, family health, child development, society harmony, and people’s well-beings. (2) College of Design dedicates to educate students’ professional, inter-disciplinary, and innovative capabilities, and to participate extensively in international and domestic design competitions, exhibitions and education-industry cooperative projects. (3) College of Management focuses on nurturing practical management talents who have both innovative engagements and global insights. Through considering the cultivation of professional business administration ability as the core, the college promotes “Flexible Learning for Students In-Service” Program, establishes cross-discipline “Profession Model” system, and develops cultivated teaching activities and academic exchange with international sister universities.

There are two colleges on Kaohsiung Campus. (4) College of Business and Information, with the core idea that we are idea practitioners of creative life, orients itself toward helping students of business major build up themselves as individuals with humanistic concern, life creativity, and global vision. (5) College of Culture and Creativity, based on the founding principles of Shih Chien University—innovation, practice, and perfection, aims at spreading out local cultural characteristic, and bringing creative thinking into full play.

Facilities

The University is committed to creating a quality campus environment and ensuring excellence in all facility services. The University has a range of academic facilities including libraries, lecture halls, science laboratories, studios, computer centers, and conference facilities. Sporting and athletic facilities include swimming pools, gyms, and outdoor courts. The University also has building complexes with restaurants, cafes, convenience stores, and bookstores, providing amenities to every University members.

Dormitory

S.C.U has own dorms in the campus for students both in Taipei and Kaohsiung. And we also have dorms out of school for international students and exchange students(but we separate the genders into independent houses and apartments).



All dorms are very convenient for students to take M.R.T, bus, airplane, H.S.R and train. It takes maximum 15 mins to Taipei Main Station by bus and subway;and around 5 mins to M.R.T and bus station by walk.Moreover,there are a lot of restaurants, bar, tea shops and variety kinds of stores around our dorms.



And it costs students around NTD$25,000 per semester. Dorms included free W.I.F.I,air-conditioner and hot water.

The Chinese Language Center (CLC) of Shih Chien University was established in September 2012. CLC offers regular and short-term Chinese programs for students who are interested in learning Chinese language and culture. To facilitate learning, CLC has a self-access room with multi-media equipment, where plenty of books and online materials for Chinese learning are available, creating a cozy, resourceful and adaptive learning environment for students.

Practical Chinese Program (International students) 3-8 156 25000 850 2015-02-28 For any international student whose native language is not Chinese and plans to stay in Taiwan for six months or 1 year. We provide Practical Chinese Program which is focus on daily conversation, speaking and listening skill. Three levels of course are provided, from beginner, basic and intermediade levels to place each student to the proper class.

Huan-shan dormitory is a recent completed project especially for foreign students. It is 6 stories high and equipped with elevators. The surveillance cameras are installed within the premises for students’ safety. Entrance gate and elevators are only accessible for students who have a valid student id card.The dorm is located in the residential district in Neihu, merely 10 minutes’ walk from Xi-hu MRT station. It only takes approximately 20 minutes for students travelling between Huan-shan dormitory and Shih Chien university by public transportation.The neighborhood is quiet and relaxing. An elementary school and a high school are nearby, an ideal place for sports and exercise. For living convenience, numerous restaurants and coffee shops, the supermarket, the clinic, medical institution, postal office and even dry cleaning are reachable on foot.

Shi-Lin Night market is one of the most popular night markets in Taipei. You can get there from Shih Chien University in 15 minutes by bus “Red 3”.

Popular Course

I. Regular Program
 Introduction for Regular Programs:
A. People who are 18 years old or above and want to learn Chinese as a second language are welcome to enroll in this program.
B. Classes are 3 hours per day, 15 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
C. There are four terms per year. Each term lasts three months (12 weeks).
D. Classes are offered in various levels: Beginner, Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced. For each level, there are three sessions (I), (II), and (III), except the Beginner level just have one session.
E. Courses are conducted in class size of 5~10 students placed in suited to their levels according to their placement test results.

i. Beginner level
This course is for the students whom never learn Mandarin, the course starts from Mandarin phonetic symbols and Pinyin, emphasize on pronunciation, intonations and simple conversations.

ii. Basic level
The course aims at building students’ confidence in basic Mandarin abilities to listen, speak, read and write. The course mainly focuses on basic communication skills and simple sentence patterns.

iii. Intermediate level
This course is designed to expand students’ abilities in all four skills with a particular attention to cultural and sociological content.

iv. Advanced level
Students will learn to freely apply their knowledge, and will be able to discuss and explore various contemporary topics.


II. Intensive Programs
 Introduction to Intensive Programs:
A. For groups of 10 people or above, we provide a short-term intensive program during summer and winter breaks.
B. The program lasts 2 to 3 weeks.
C. Each week consists of a full 20 hours of Chinese language classes and culture classes.
D. Intensive Programs also provide field trips, outdoor activities and counselors to assist you during your staying.

III. Customized Program
 Introduction to Customized Program:
A. For groups of 10 people or above, we provide short-term intensive program for high school, universities, language institutions, corporations and community clients.
B. Class content will be custom-made according to group needs.
C. According to your requirement, we provide culture classes, field trips, outdoor activities and counselors to assist you during your staying.

IV. Individual Class
 Introduction to Individual Class:
Individual Class provides students more one on one listening, speaking, reading and writing practice according to each student's needs and learning purposes.
