Introduction

Lastest release date: Jul 12, 2017

Located along the southwest coast of Taiwan in Tainan City, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST), one of the top six Paradigm Technological Universities by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education, is a competitive international university dedicated to providing students a well-rounded education in both the humanities and technology.

Founded in 1969, STUST quickly moved from a junior college of technology to a full-fledged university with an emphasis on both teaching and research. We place a great emphasis on excellent teaching, practical research, and partnering with local industries for real-world experience. In fact, STUST has received the highest grant due to our prominent performance in the execution of the Teaching and Learning Excellence Project among private technical and vocational universities by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education from 2006-2014.

Currently, we have over 18,000 students, of which 700 are international students hailing from 31 different countries. Our faculty of nearly 600 strives to establish a strong global mindset and independent thinking in each of our students. We care about our international students and strive to meet our students needs as they pursue further education far from home. In fact, due to our continued effort of taking care of international students, in 2012, STUST was one of the four universities receiving the best International Students Service Awards in 2012 by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education.

STUST offers several avenues for you to study at our university.

If you desire to learn Mandarin or improve your Mandarin language ability, the courses our Chinese Language Center offers are perfect for you.

If your Mandarin is already adequate, and you'd like to pursue your further education in Chinese, we've got over 24 undergraduate majors, 32 master's programs, and 4 PhD programs from four colleges--The College of Engineering, The College of Business, The College of Digital Design, and The College of Humanities and Social Sciences--for you to choose from.

If you're looking for a unique international experience while pursing higher education, but you are not yet fluent in academic Mandarin, we now offer 2 undergraduate and 6 graduate (including both masters and PhD) programs completely taught in English, giving us a total of 8 English-taught degree programs. Five of our graduate programs have been officially "highly recommended" by Taiwan's Ministry of Education.

So, no matter what you are looking for in further education, we've got something for you.

Campus

Our campus is located near downtown Tainan on an area of 16 hectares. Our campus is less than 4 km from Tainan City’s Railway Station and is walking distance from the DaChiao Train Station.

The school now contains 31 buildings, including the Auditorium, Teaching and Research Building, Internship Workshop, Library, Student Center, dormitories for male and female students, classroom buildings and so on. In addition to these facilities, there are well-built facilities for sports, including a brand-new gym, tennis courts, volleyball courts, basketball courts and a track and field.

In addition, STUST has beautiful landscaping. The soothing green lawn, foliage, and shade beautifully contrast with all of STUST's red brick buildings. Almost year round you can find students either studying or grabbing a bite to eat outside in one of the many gardens or outdoor recreational areas.

Our international student program is well-established and trustworthy. Currently, we have over 700 international and overseas Chinese students from 31 different countries pursuing higher education with us. These students come from countries such as the United States, Germany, France, Czech Republic, Slovak, Poland, Portugal, Mexico, Japan, Panama, Guatemala, Paraguay, Turkey, Kiribati, St. Vincent, Indonesia, India, Croatia, China, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Mongolia, Macau, Egypt, Jordan, etc.

We care about our international students at STUST. Here in the Office of International Affairs (OIA), there are several friendly faces ready to make your dreams of studying in Taiwan come true.

All of the staff in the OIA speak either English or Japanese, so even if you don't know Chinese yet, we can answer your questions about studying at STUST and help make your transition to living in Taiwan just a bit easier.

In addition, to assist you in your adjustment to life as an international student at STUST, we have a special orientation just for international students before the fall semester begins. We also have a program in place to match you with a mentor--a local Taiwanese student--who has volunteered to help you with making STUST your new academic home.

Throughout the school year, the OIA provides opportunities for our international students to gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan's customs by regularly hosting activities to celebrate important traditional festivals in Taiwan, such as the Ghost Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival, and Chinese New Year. We also provide an opportunity each year for our international students to share their heritage and culture with the local Taiwanese students and faculty at our "International Art and Culture Day."

After you complete your studies with us, we are available to help you set up an internship with a local company so you can gain an even deeper hands-on Taiwanese experience.

Over the years, STUST has furthered the academic and professional careers of many international students. We’d love the opportunity to do the same for you!
