International and Cross-Strait Affairs history of development and Organizational Structure

As this office was formerly two separate, similarly top-tier organizations (International Affairs and Cross-Strait Cooperation Exchange), both offices’ histories will be explained in detail.

1.History of the Office of International Affairs
Originally an office of Technology Research and Development in 1998, by 2000 this office established an international relations division.
Between 2000 and 2003, the international relations division was mostly concerned with cross-strait exchanges. Starting in 1994, in order to comply with the Ministry of Education’s policies, Shu-Te began to establish practical ties with South-East Asia. In 2010, to accommodate the increased importance of general international traffic, the international relations division was upgraded to a first tier office.
The mission of the International Affairs Office is to promote international education, as well as to attract international students. The second priority is to promote international academic exchange and to strengthen international collaboration. Thus, under the Office of International Affairs, the International Education division (with the goal of attracting international students) and the International Cooperation Division (with the goal of strengthening collaboration) were formed.

2. History of the Cross-Strait Affairs Office
In April of 2008, under the goal of attracting more students from China, Shu-Te established the Kinmen Preparatory Office. With the influx of cross-strait academic exchanges, the Office was renamed the Cross-Strait Affairs Office. In 2010, based on comprehensive consideration for the university, the office’s sections were simplified from Arts, Sports, General Affairs, and Teaching Courses Development to General Affairs and Teaching Courses Development effective starting August 1, 2010. Due to the requirements of the university, by May 2011 the Kinmen Preparatory Office was merged with these two sections.

3. The Establishment of the International and Cross-Strait Affairs Office
To integrate resources and to jointly promote internationalism and cross-strait affairs, the two original offices merged in 2013. After the offices were consolidated, the goals are to promote international recruitment, as well as to mold an excellent, tailor-made educational environment to deepen and widen the strengths of the international and cross-strait exchange. We hope that the university will benefit from these efforts of internationalization.
