National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) is a vibrant learning community that has long been recognized as one of Taiwan’s elite institutions of higher education. Founded in 1946, NTNU was formerly an institute dedicated to teacher education, as suggested in the name “Normal”, that later evolved into a comprehensive university. Established on the credo that education is the root of our nation, NTNU has been committed to the pursuit of academic excellence, characterized by the many influential educators and researchers it has nurtured over the years.

Bearing the hallmarks of tradition and innovation, NTNU has expanded to 3 campuses, offering a wide spectrum of courses and degrees under its 9 colleges, including the arts and humanities, education, sociology, business management, athletics, to the sciences. Facilities inside NTNU include libraries, computerized classrooms, the campus network service, conference rooms, exhibition and concert halls, sports facilities, dormitories and a guest house, campus cafeteria and shops, a health center, a post office, and ATMs.



Exercise facilities on campus include indoor swimming facilities (an Olympic-size pool, a small swimming pool, a SPA pool, a steam room, and saunas), track, tennis courts, basketball courts and a large gymnasium that houses space for weight training, aerobics, dance, etc., providing students with a comfortable environment. physical fitness while pursuing their studies.



The Main Campus and the Gongguan Campus are both very close to the night markets, all kinds of shops, clothing stores, and grocery stores. 24-hour convenience stores, supermarkets, traditional markets and bookstores are also all around the corners.

Dormitory

New international students are given the priority for student housing. Generally speaking, undergraduates will have no problem securing a dormitory room. Graduate students, however, are advised to apply early.

There are a total of eleven NTNU student dormitories, one located on the main campus, six on the Gongguan campus, and four on the Linkou campus.

Each room is shared by 3-6 students.



Costs:

Costs vary depending on the dormitory. For one academic year, (September to the end of June) students should expect to pay between NT$ 10,000 and NT$ 24,000. The cost of utilities is not included in this fee. To stay in the residence halls over the summer vacation students must apply and pay separately.



Amenities:



1. Community use: bathrooms and toilets, washing machines, washers, dryers, clothes lines, lobby, televisions, cafeteria, kiosks, laundry service, barbershop and beauty parlor, ping pong tables and billiard tables.

2. Each room is furnished with tables, chairs, lamps, beds, telephone, fan, etc.

3. Internet:All dormitories are equipped with internet connections to allow students the convenience of accessing the World Wide Web right from their dorm rooms.

The Office of International Affairs (OIA) was founded in August 2007 to advocate, support and pursue the University’s goals in international education and exchange. The mission of the OIA is to strengthen the global dimensions of learning, teaching, research and service throughout the University. It aims to enhance international cooperation by promoting exchange programs and recruiting international students.

As the newest administrative division of the University, the staff of the OIA is committed to serving all incoming and currently enrolled international and overseas Chinese students at the University by providing them with a network of support and helping them make the transition into the NTNU community. More importantly, in accordance with the internationalization initiatives of the University, the OIA is dedicated to increasing the opportunities for students to be in contact with other cultures through our academic curricula, study abroad plans, faculty and student exchange programs and international scholars’ visits on campus.

Founded in 1956, MTC is the oldest, largest and the most renowned Chinese language center in Taiwan. All classes are taught in a small size by experienced teachers, and follow the modern language pedagogy and standardized curriculum. Learning goals and course levels are compatible with international language proficiency standards (CEFR and ACTFL.)

Scholarships

Eligible Students -- Outstanding students from overseas colleges and universities who have studied or are currently studying Mandarin Chinese can apply for the scholarship with their Chinese teachers’ recommendations. Each university has the quota of one or two student scholarships.
Benefits-a full tuition fee waiver for up to four terms of studies.

Accommondation

MTC does not provide dormitories to students, but offer up-to-date housing information and assistance. The cost of renting a furnished room around MTC is around NTD 8,000-12,000 per month.

Location & Facilities

MTC is located in the city center near the MRT station and served by several bus lines. It has modern facilities like multimedia language labs and computer rooms. Students can also use the NTNU facilities such as the University library, Health Center, an Olympic-size-swimming pool, and a gym.

Local Attractions

MTC is less than one hour by bus or MRT from major tourist attractions in northern Taiwan, such as Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Taipei 101, Lung Shan Temple, and National Palace Museum. Shida Nightmarket, one of the most popular night-markets in Taipei, is just across the street.

Three-month regular and intensive courses, short-term/express programs, supplementary courses for all levels. Two-month summer session from July to August and NTNU Mandarin Summer Camp.
