Research & Innovation: NCKU has a national-level medical center and established the Research and Service Headquarters (RSH) in 1996, the first of its kind in the country, which features nearly 80 research centers.

Industry-University Cooperation: NCKU is No.1 in academia-industry collaboration in Taiwan.

Internationalization: NCKU has the second largest number of international degree-seeking students in Taiwan. NCKU currently has 2,548 international students spanning five continents, including 1,233 degree students (607 overseas Chinese students), 535 exchange students and 780 Chinese Language Center students.

Campus

NCKU is located in Tainan City, Taiwan Province, the Republic of China. It is situated accross from the Tainan Railway Station, offering convenient transportation. The total area of the school is 172.629294 hectares, including the Cheng-Kung, Sheng-Li, Kuang-Fu, Chien-Kuo, Tzu-Chiang, Ching-Yeh, Li-Hsing, and Kuei-Jen Campuses, the An-Nan Campus and some areas designated for dormitory use. It is one of the most spacious and beautiful university campuses in this country.



▲CHENG-KUNG CAMPUS

This campus was the site of the Tainan Technical Institute during the period of Japanese Occupation(1895-1945) and is the birthplace of this university. It sits on a plot measuring 18.3176 hectares. Buildings housing the Departments of Engineering Science, Computer Science & Information Engineering, Mineral and Petroleum Engineering, Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Hydraulics & Ocean Engineering are located in the eastern part of this campus. Buildings for the Departments of Physics and Chemistry, and Ger-Chih Auditorium are located in the southern part of the center of this campus, and the Departments of Mathematics, Surveying Engineering, Biology and Main Library are located in the northern part of this campus. The Tsung-Ho Building, the Mechanical-Electrical-Chemical Engineering Building, the Earth Science Department building, the Physics-Chemistry Building, and the Information Building are located in the southwest of this campus. The Hsin-Yuan, Cheng-Kung House and the Guest Hall are located on the northwestern side of this campus. This is the oldest campus in the university with many luxuriant trees presenting a spectacular scene remembered by all NCKU students.

 

▲SHENG-LI CAMPUS

This campus is on the south side of Ta-Hsueh Road. It was established in 1950 when the land (8.5119 hectares) was purchased. Student dormitories and a student cafeteria are located in the south of this campus: Sheng-Li Mens Dormitories No. 1, 4, 5, and 6, Sheng-Li Womens Dormitories No. 2, 3, 8, and 9, a stationery store, a bookstore, and two Chinese food cafeterias. The original Main Library located in the eastern half is planning to be reading rooms and student activities spaces , and swimming pools are located in the northwestern part of this campus.



▲KUANG-FU CAMPUS

This campus (20.9558 hectares), established in 1966 after being purchased from the Ministry of National Defense, is located to the west of Cheng-Kung Campus. Kuang-Fu Field, the Student Activity Center, basketball courts, volleyball courts, tennis courts, and the Chiang Kai-shek Gymnasium are located in the southern section of this campus. Kuang-Fu Men's Dormitories No. 1, 2, and 3, Military Training Building, the Wei-Nung Building, the University Administrative Building, and the Management Science College Building are located in the center of this campus. Buildings for the Industrial Design Department, the Art Study Institute, the Architecture Department, the Earthquake Engineering laboratory, the Urban Planning Department, the Shiou-Chi Building, and the Liberal Arts College are located in the northern part of this campus. With the famous Banyan Tree Garden and the Cheng-Kung Pond on its north side, this campus is most exquisite. Many student activities take place there.

 

▲CHIEN-KUO CAMPUS

This campus is located to the north of Hsiao-Tung Road, to the east of Sheng-Li Road, and to the north of Cheng-Kung Campus. This 7.3398-hectare campus, originally a training center for the country's army artillery units, was purchased from the Ministry of National Defense in 1971. Buildings for the Departments of Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Medical Technology and the Biomedical Engineering Institute are located in the east side of this campus. Buildings for the Medical College and the Teaching Hospital occupy the west side of this campus. Compared to all other campuses of the University, this campus holds the greatest floor space of all, a total of 40,000-plus , and has a great potential for future development.



▲TZU-CHIANG CAMPUS

This campus, established in 1983 after being purchased from the Ministry of National Defense, is located to the east of Chang-Jung Road and to the south of Ta-Hsueh Road, with a total area of 13.3795 hectares. The Science-Technology Building, and buildings for the Departments of Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering are all located on this campus. Fields for football, baseball, basketball, and volleyball are on its north side. This campus is the center of the University's major technology development.

 

▲CHING-YEH CAMPUS

This campus, established in 1983 after being purchased from the Provincial Government Housing and Urban Planning Bureau, is located to the east of Chang-Jung Road and to the north of Hsiao-Tung Road with a total area of 1.74 hectares. In addition, another 1.71 hectares was appropriated from the military, making a total area of 3.4533 hectares for this campus. This campus provides areas of dormitories and leisure. The apartment buildings for doctors of the Teaching Hospital, single faculty housing, student dormitories, postgraduate dormitories, and tennis courts are located on this campus.



▲CHING-YEH CAMPUS

This campus, with a total area of 2.7713 hectares, is located to the north of Hsiao-Tung Road, to the west of Sheng-Li Road, and directly across from the Kuang-Fu Campus. This campus originally comprised the old Highway Department Control Station and Taiwan Automobile Company Maintenance Station. The Medical-Nursing Building is on this campus.

 

▲KUEI-JEN CAMPUS

This campus is located in Kuei-jen Village, Tainan County. It was purchased, with the authorization of the Executive Yuan, from the Taiwan Sugar Company in July of 1987. It has a total area of 20.9 hectares. In addition, in March of 1989, with the authorization of the Executive Yuan, another 0.6 hectares was appropriated from the National Treasury Bureau, bringing the total campus area to 21.5995 hectares. This campus houses the experimental station of the Aeronautics and Astronautics Center. At present, the campus, also an important site of national defense technology, is cooperating with the architecture research institute of the Ministry of Domestic Affairs to set up architecture experiment facilities.



▲AN-NAN CAMPUS

The current area of this campus, purchased from the Taiwan Salt Works, Ministry of Economical Affairs in 1993, is 72.817694 hectares. The total area of this campus will be 73 hectares and is earmarked for industrial-educational cooperation and training purposes, and will become a large " Hydraulic Model Experimental Field " with a flume and basin being finished.



▲DOU-LIU CAMPUS

This campus is situated in Douliu City of Yunlin County, and was transformed from a national army hospital complex and transferred to the University on July 1, 2005, as a result of a policy to streamline the military. The hospital complex, occupying a total area of 4.6631 acres, has been instituted as a branch of the university hospital to continue its operation. In addition to several Japanese buildings, the University is working on the construction of a new medical block in a bid to follow the former military hospital and provide medical services to soldiers, their family members and local residents in Yunlin County. Meanwhile, the University aims to operate the hospital-oriented campus to help fulfill national and local medical policies and meet medical needs in the Yunlin area.

★ NCKU International House (Prince Hall)

Prince Hall, situated on the corner of Sheng-Li Road and Ta-Hsueh Road, was completed by the end of August 2008. It is very near NCKU campus. It is a BOT project, so it is not managed by NCKU. By Bus:

▲From the North-
1. Take National Freeway No.1 (Sun Yat-Sen Freeway) southbound.
2. Get off at Exit 319 (Yongkang Interchange) and turn right to southbound Chungcheng N. Road.
3. Travel down on Chungcheng N. Road and Chungcheng S. Road, and make a left turn at Chunghwa Road.
4. Drive down Chunghwa Road and Chunghwa East Road.
5. Turn right at Shiaodong Road and travel along it for a few blocks further, about 1.2 km, to reach NCKU.

(If you drive on National Freeway No.3 Southbound, at Exit 346 (Shinhua System), take National Freeway No.8 Westbound (Exit 6, Tainan System Interchange) to get on National Freeway No.1 Southbound to Exit 319)

▲From the South-
1. Take National Freeway No.1 (Sun Yat-Sen Freeway) northbound.
2. Get off at Exit 327 (Tainan Interchange) and turn left to westbound Chungshang Road.
3. Travel on Chungshang Road and continue on Dongmen Road.

The Office of International Affairs (OIA) was formally established as of August 1, 2006. At present time, the Office is constituted of two divisions – International Relations Division and International Student Affairs Division. The Office is considered the heart for internationalization of NCKU, and takes a significant part in the future development of the University.

The International Relations Division is primarily engaged in promoting and facilitating the international collaborations and exchange programs with mainly academic institutions around the world.

The International Student Affairs Division serves as a vital platform connecting the NCKU administration with international students and visiting scholars to our University. The Division is equipped to assist in matters concerning the financial support, health insurance programs, study consultations, and all information needed to life in-, and outside of campus.

國際學術交流向來是本校發展的重點之一,原由研究發展處學術合作組辦理國際學術交流相關業務。

民國92年起由學術合作組擔任招收外籍生之單一窗口,負責辦理外籍學生事務,為本校國際化業務執行之過渡期窗口。近年來,由於校內各單位國際交流活動日益蓬勃,國際間往來亦趨頻繁,交流形式益加的多樣化,為進一步提昇本校「國際化」程度,吸引優秀之外籍學生來校就讀,有必要整合校內相關資源,成立國際事務專責單位,提昇其國際競爭力,吸引外籍學生來校就讀。

因此,在94學年度通過成立「國際學術處」,設置國際合作組與國際學生事務組兩組,於96年2月1日起正式運作,並於97年8月教育部核備改名為「國際事務處」,綜理全校性的國際事務,並協助校內各單位辦理國際性活動,以及提供外籍學生與學者完善的諮詢服務,進而深化校園整體的「國際化」程度,提昇本校的國際競爭力與知名度。

Established in 1982, NCKU Chinese Language Center accepts about 1,000 foreign students every year, and is rated among the top four language centers in Taiwan. We offer courses in Mandarin at every level from Beginner through Advanced in either “Small Group”(6-12) or “Individual” classes. In addition, we offer elective culture classes including Chinese Painting, Calligraphy, Opera, Cuisine and Culture. We frequently organize special courses for study tours. All of our 23 full-time teachers have passed the Ministry of Education Proficiency for Teaching Chinese as a Second Language.

Scholarships

The six-month General Scholarship is available to five applicants. There are two a year from January to June and July to December.

Accommondation

Accommodation in the NCKU dormitory is available in summer vacation. On-Campus rooms for 2-3 people cost about NTD750 per week. If students need assistance in booking hotel or similar accommodation near the campus, they should contact the CLC staff before arriving. Location & Facilities

The CLC is located in Tainan City and is fully equipped with audio-visual and computer facilities, with additional facilities for students to engage in self-guided learning or practice: a language laboratory, auditorium, mini-theatre, A/V classroom, calligraphy classroom.

Local Attractions

Tainan has played a major role in Taiwan’s history ever since the first Han migration. It served as the capital until 1885, and is peppered with famous sites like Chihkan Towers (1653), Matsu Temple (1684), Chengkung Temple (1674), Confucius Temple (1665) and Anping Fort (1624).
