China Medical University (CMU) was established as China Medical College on June 6th, 1958 and transformed itself into China Medical University in 2003. It was the first government-approved academic institution in Taiwan to provide Chinese medicine and pharmacy programs. The university has steadily grown to its present position as one of the foremost medical universities in Taiwan. The university has two major campuses, Taichung and Beigang.



Located in the heart of Taiwan, the Taichung main campus encompasses seven colleges in which a variety of higher degree programs are offered in the fields of Western medicine, Chinese medicine, pharmacy, health care, life science, public health, and management. Interdisciplinary courses and international degree programs are also available for domestic and foreign students who desire to integrate their learning experiences and expand their horizons.

Campus

The campus is located in the northern part of Taichung, close to the city center. Because of the unavailbility of land in the city, a second campus was established in Peikang in Yunlin County in 1958. The Taichung campus is comprised of the Lifu Teaching Building, the medical Building, the Huchu Building, the Medical Technology Building, and four hospital buildings. The peikang Campus is comprised of the Teaching Building. the Activity Center and Halls of Residence, in addition to Matsu Teaching Hospital.



China Medical University consists of two campuses-the main campus is located in downtown Taichung;the branch at Peikang, Yunlin Country. Currently, the university comprises four colleges:College of Medicine, College of Chinese Medicine, College of Pharmacy, and College of public Health. There are 20 departments including:School of Medicine, School of Chinese Medicine, School of Post-Baccalaureate Chinese Medicine, School of Dentistry, School of Nursing, School of Nutrition, School of Physical Therapy. School of Pharmacy and Second Programs Pharmacy, School of Public Health, School of Health Services management, School of Occupational Safety and Health. School of Medical Laboratory Sciene and Biotechnology, School of Sports Medicine, School of Biological Science and Technology, School of Cosmetics, School of Chinese Medicine Resources, School of Rish Management, School of Radiological Technology, and School of Dental Hygiene.



Adding to that, ther are nine graduate programs including of Medicine, Institute of Nutrition, Institute of Environmental Medicine, Institute of Health Services Management, Institute of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences, Institute of Chinese Pharmacy, Institute of Nursing and Institute of Integration of Chinese and Western Medicine. Among which, Institute of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Institute of Chinese Medical Science, and Institute of Chinese Pharmacy offer doctoral degrees.



Moreover, the university also own Lifu Museum of Chinese Medicine Library, Computer Center, Extension Center, Environmental Safety and Hygiene Center, Acupuncture Research Center, General Education Center, an Animal Center, and Research and Development Committee, all of which are aimed to support school education, research and development.

Dormitory

New international undergraduate students have first priority for campus accommodation (3-4 people share one room). Rent is about NT.8,300~10,300 per semester per person

Getting Here

By Bus:

From Taichung Train Station, take the local bus, Ren-You Bus No. 25 (which goes to the Overseas Chinese Institute of Technology). It takes about 20 minutes to get to Zhongshan Hall (CMU).

From Taichung Train Station, take the local bus, UBus No.61 (which goes to Taya). It takes about 20 minutes to get to Zhongshan Hall (CMU).

Take the local bus, Taichung Bus No. 1 or No. 131 (either of them passes by CMU).

By Car:

1. Through National Freeway No.1
(1) Northbound
Drive along National Freeway No.1, take the exit at Taichung Interchange (178.6km) and follow the direction to Taichung. Drive along TaiJungGang Rd. Turn left in the Yingcai Rd. and go along till you meet Xueshi Rd. CMU is on the corner of Yingcai Rd and Xueshi Rd.

(2) Southbound
Drive along National Freeway No.1, take the exit at Daya Interchange (174.2km) and follow the direction to Taichung. Drive along Zhongqing Rd., which becomes Daya Rd. Turn left in the Yingcai Rd. and go alone till you meet Xueshi Rd. CMU is on the corner of Yingcai Rd and Xueshi Rd.

2. Through National Freeway No.3
(1) Northbound
Drive along National Freeway No.3, take the exit at Jhongtou Interchange(209.0km) and turn to Jhongtou Expressway, which becomes Wuquan S. Rd. Then, go along Wuquan Rd and turn left till you meet Xueshi Rd. CMU is on the corner of Yingcai Rd and Xueshi Rd.

(2) Southbound
Drive along National Freeway No.3, take the exit at Shalu Interchange (176.1km) and follow the direction to Taichung (Daya). Drive along Zhongqing Rd., which becomes Daya Rd. Turn left in the Yingcai Rd. and go alone till you meet Xueshi Rd. CMU is on the corner of Yingcai Rd and Xueshi Rd.

Academic Information

The Center for World-Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University released the 10th edition of its annual global university ranking on 15th August. Due to the dedication of all the faculties, China Medical University (CMU) for the first time ranks top 500 in "Academic Ranking of World Universities" with other top universities in Taiwan, including National Taiwan University, National Cheng Kung University, National Tsing Hua University, Chang Gung University, National Chiao Tung University, National Central University, National Sun Yat-Sen University, and National Yang Ming University. CMU is the only university in central Taiwan to rank top 500. Moreover, in the field of Clinical Medicine and Pharmacy, the ranking of CMU even reaches the top 200, in which only three Taiwan universities are enlisted.



For the past few years, China Medical University has impressed the public with several remarkable achievements. Since 2006, CMU has been awarded with consecutive Teaching Excellence Grants by the Ministry of Education, ranking highest among medical universities in Taiwan based on student population. In the fiscal year of 2011-2012, CMU even ranks the top one nationwide. In addition, the School of Medicine successfully passed the accreditation by the Taiwan Medical Accreditation Council (TMAC) and was rewarded with an exemption for the next 7 years. In 2010, owing to implementation of the mini-CEX clinical procedure, China Medical University received the recognition of National Human Power Innovation Award by the Council of Labor Affairs, Executive Yuan. Step by step, CMU develops to become one of the best universities in the world, and its mission is not only to strive for excellence in teaching and research on campus, but also to innovate healing methods and products, and to promote health off campus.
