The Department of Mechanical Engineering was founded in 1975, as one of the first departments of the then National Taiwan Institute of Technology. A Graduate School of Engineering was established in 1979, which currently enrolls more than 700 Master and PhD students from all over the world.
With 50 full-time members of faculty, we can offer a broad spectrum of courses covering many disciplines of mechanical engineering. Our faculty is divided into five groups: Design and Mechanics, Manufacturing, Thermal Science and Fluid Mechanics, Control, and Materials. In our undergraduate programs, students will acquire a solid base of mechanical engineering fundamentals, and are then encouraged to specialize in an area of their own interest. In our engineering education, we put an emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches to solve engineering problems.
Our department’s research activities focus on mechanical design and manufacturing with a focus on practical engineering applications. Technology transfer has been given high priority to ensure that newly developed technologies will make their way into industrial applications.
