The department, founded in 1996, is committed to training students to achieve professional development and practical experience in early childhood education and care. In order to becoming the best program of nurturing the high-quality childcare givers in Taiwan, the department create professional courses from different perspectives including early childhood education, childcare quality, child development, administrative management, early intervention, and nursing courses. Students gain the knowledge of childcare based on their interests and their own career plans. A series of practical trainings including practicum in the ECE program and internship in the field of professional interests to help students obtain hands-on experiences. In addition, students will integrate their learning and write their theses when taking Independent Study before graduation.

Teachers are experts in Education, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, and Special Education. They are as facilitators to help students improve their professional knowledge by utilizing different teaching methods including instructions, individual and group discussions, institution visiting, seminar/workshops, and collaborative learning… etc.

The program is well supported by the professional facilities, such as performance halls, human nutrition laboratories, the childcare laboratory, sensory integration classroom, art and craft classrooms, computer and language laboratories, which meet the needs of students. Currently, the department has developed a long term partnership with more than 20 childcare institutions for assisting students to achieve hands-on experiences and become professional child care givers and educators.

The program prepares students for a variety of professional roles focused on serving the needs of children. Potential roles include the following:
1. Teaching young children
2. Nursing infants and toddlers
3. Administration of children’s programs
4. Parent educator
5. Work in public and private agencies focused on children and families
6. Early childhood intervention
7. Other roles requiring similar knowledge and skills
