The School of Nursing of National Taiwan University (NTU) was established in 1956. It was the first nursing school in the university level in Taiwan. The master science in nursing (MSN) program at NTU was developed in 1984 and Doctoral of Philosophy (PhD) program was also further developed in 1997. The NTU Ph.D. program at School of Nursing is the first PhD program in Nursing in Taiwan. As the leading school of nursing in Taiwan and outstanding performances in research, education and practices, NTU School of Nursing has been ranked as the top 43rd Nursing School in the 2016 QS World University in Nursing.



The mission of undergraduate program (BSN) aims to train students to become excellent health and nursing care providers for different health care practice. The MSN program focuses on developing clinical nurse specialists and nurse practitioner (NP) as clinical nursing and health care leaders. The PhD program aims to develop nursing scientists and researchers to advance nursing knowledge, practice and education and to be health care leaders. The PhD program welcome students internationally. There are sufficient advanced courses in English in school of nursing as well as other schools in NTU.



The characteristics of the School of Nursing include:



1. An excellent learning environment:


In the School of Nursing, students learn from highly qualified faculty members. They also have a chance to practice clinical nursing in national teaching hospitals and community health stations. In addition to the courses required by the school, students are encouraged to take the elective courses offered by various departments in the University in order to broaden their minds. The School of Nursing not only values students' professional knowledge, but also their extracurricular social activities.



2.The integration of teaching, research and clinical services:


Besides teaching at the academy, the faculty members also hold administrative or clinical positions (Joint Appointments) at National Taiwan University Hospital as a means of integrating academic study and clinical practice. As a result of the Joint Appointment system, clinical practice is improved through research, which in turn enriches the faculty's academic research. Research and clinical practice are thus integrated into the nursing curriculum.



3.The commitment of the nursing profession to society:


In addition, faculty members are active in nursing professional societies in which they taking leading roles as presidents, members of boards of directors, controllers, and professional committee members.



4. Collaboration with famous universities internationally:


The School of Nursing has actively developed international academic and education cooperation in several internationally well known schools. These schools are as follows: School of Nursing at the University of Washington and University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in the USA; the School of Nursing at Mahidol University in Thailand; The Nethersole School of Nursing at the Chinese University in Hong Kong; School of Nursing in the University of Tokyo and Department of Nursing at Kochi University in Japan; the Sydney Nursing School at University of Sydney and School of Nursing at the University of Newcastle in Australia.



5. Strong faculty group and researchers:



We have strong faculty members with outstanding research performance. The research interests of the faculty include the fields of: adult health care, oncology care, aging and chronic illness care, women’s health, child and family care, community and health promotion, psychiatric and mental care. The research grant funded and academic performances in faculty members of NTU School of Nursing are ranked as the leading in Taiwan. Faculty members are actively in academic activities in Taiwan and internationally. Many faculty members are also served as presidents in various academic health care associations.



The overall education goal of NTU school of Nursing is to develop the outstanding nursing students to become nursing as well as health care leaders in clinical practice, administration, education and research in Taiwan and internationally. We welcome master prepared nurses or health care providers to join our PhD program. We believe students will have the best learning in NTU School of Nursing.
