To meet the needs of technological development, ASE was established in 2002 and it has been serving as a platform to integrate five departments (Mathematics, Physics, Life Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Information Engineering) at the College of Science and Engineering. The ASE provides a Ph.D. degree for those who graduated from the above-correlated departments. It integrates related equipment, faculty members, and study areas in order to contribute more to technology.

At present, there are more than 100 full-time faculty members in these five departments. The main goal is to make use of available resources and faculty members to develop competitively integrated research among the following five fields: Biotechnology, Opto-Electronic Technology, Electronic System Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Scientific Computation. All English lectures and seminars are provided for Ph.D. students, and scholarships are available for international students. The unique feature of our Ph.D. program is that the students can choose any field based on their field of interest and specialize in it. Besides, students may have chances to join industry-academic projects and enhance practical experiences during their study at Fu Jen Catholic University.
