This Graduate Institute focuses on Taiwan Literature, expanding the teaching, learning, and research into the fields of Taiwanese Culture and the languages of Taiwan. The Institute, currently the best of its kind nationally, emphasizes three areas for development: 1. The expansion and development of research into Subjectivity and Nativism in Taiwan Literature. 2. The research methodology for tracing the interplay between Taiwan Literature, Culture, History and Society, as well as the free exchange of ideas, traversing many fields and many cultural modes of thought. 3. Improving international relations by keeping abreast of current topics of discussion/research and relating this to Taiwanese, East Asian, and World Literature, by stressing their mutual influences and interdependencies.
