Tamkang University

Hi Project

TAMKANG – A University with Ideals, Vision, and Creativity Tamkang University is a leading private university in Taiwan. It is the oldest private university, founded in 1950, and has more than 240,000 alumni. It is also the fastest developing. It has eight colleges spread over four campuses: Tamsui Campus, Taipei Campus, Lanyang Campus, and its Cyber Campus, catering to more than 27,000 students, and more than 2,200 faculty and staff members.

Tamkang University has always been at the forefront of advocating and working to internationalize Taiwan’s higher education. It has forged sister-school relationships with a staggering 177 universities in 32 countries and is now home to more than 1,600 overseas students from 70 countries.

TKU offers 28 dual degree programs in conjunction with 15 renowned overseas universities. Its Junior Youth Abroad Program was a pioneering initiative begun 20 years ago, and since then, 6,000 TKU students have traveled abroad for a year of study in their junior year. This gives all TKU students – including its international students – the opportunity to undertake a year of study at a leading overseas university in another country, and obtain a dual degree.

Moreover, each year, renowned scholars and experts in academic and professionals circles are invited to TKU to deliver intensive courses and special seminars. Students gain expertise from the wealth of excellent teachers, world-renowned scholars and experts on campus. TKU encourages its students to take part in overseas internship programs, service abroad initiatives, and international conferences and competitions where they regularly perform well. Tamkang University graduates have been voted as “the favorite graduates with major enterprises” for 18 consecutive years in surveys conducted by Cheers Magazine, a Taiwan magazine catering to young professionals.

TKU provides an English-friendly academic environment, with more than 250 subjects taught in English. It offers seven BA programs taught entirely in English — in Diplomacy and International Relations, English Language and Culture, Global Financial Management, Global Political Economy, Innovative Information and Technology, International Business, and International Tourism Management — and three of its MA programs taught entirely in English, in 1. the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, 2. the Division of American Studies in the Graduate Institute of the Americas, and 3. in the College of International Studies, which offers an International Master’s Program in Taiwan and Asia-Pacific Studies. It also offers 7 cross-disciplinary credit courses taught in English, and a digital course taught in Spanish.

TKU is blessed with beautiful garden-style campuses, leading-edge teaching facilities, and elegantly-designed dormitories. It was the first university in the world to receive Safe School Accreditation from the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2008 and was then reaccredited in 2012. Tamkang University established the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs to provide foreign students with high quality student and lifestyle counseling services. TKU provides foreign students with over 10 hours of free Mandarin lessons each week, and programs and activities such as the "study mate" system, host family events, and cultural festival celebrations giving them a chance to interact with local Taiwanese students and better understand Taiwanese culture.

Tamkang University aims to help each of its students establish a firm foothold. Its goal is to become a world-renowned comprehensive university that provides its students with distinctive learning and training resources and the highest quality education.
